Camiguin gears up to receive pilgrims this lent


MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, March 13 (PIA) — Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo issued an executive order dated March 2, mandating the creation of a steering and working committees to oversee the preparations of the “Panaad Pilgrimage 2012.”

All key areas such as ports, town centers, and sacred places where devotees congregate will hold information counters to be manned by the members of the local disaster risk and reduction management council, barangay council, and the tourism office.

The Philippine National Police together with the Tourist Police (TOPCOP), barangay councils, and all the barangay tanod’s were likewise responsible in maintaining peace and order situation during the week long stretch.

Another committee to oversee traffic flow, beautification, road maintenance, and garbage collection was also organized.

A medical team will look after health emergencies as devotees in some instances sometimes experience difficulties because of too much heat and exhaustion as they walk their way around the island.

The penitent walk around the island has been going on for many years now and still continues to draw more devotees and tourist alike during lent.

Pilgrims penitence walk is completed with an uphill climb in Mt. Vulcan, where the 14Stations of the Cross is located, and the Visita Iglesia. (PIA 10)
