MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, January 15 (PIA) – More than 3,000 heads of cats and dogs have undergone the spaying/neutering procedure for free here to discourage the rise of the population of stray animals.
The provincial government in coordination with the Humane Society International (HSI) started the program on November 2013.
Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo noted that the team from HSI was also pulled out temporarily during the implementation of the project, to prioritize response to displaced animals in Leyte province when it was hit by Typhoon Yolanda.
Romualdo announced in his message during his recent State of The Province Address (SOPA) that the program will continue reaching more responsible pet owners in the communities.
Provincial Veterinarian Louis S. Bollozos, meanwhile reiterates to pet owners that the procedure is safe provided that proper handling or after care is also given to the animals.
Prevailing rates for the procedure in private clinics, he said, is always above P5,000.00. (JCV/PIA)
