MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, Jan. 20 (PIA) – More farmer/landowners took the opportunity to avail of the subsidized model farm program here, benefitting assistance like planting materials, fertilizers, as well as technical inputs.
The property must be at least one hectare wide to be able to bid for the project, and the only counterpart required from the interested party, is to put up their own fence.
To date, some 38 model farms were already established in the province, planted with lanzones, durian, rambutan, mango, and kalamansi.
The assistance is under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), targeting to maximize and develop idle lands for fruit production.
In support to model farming, the provincial agriculture’s office (PAO) is also maintaining a plant nursery, to sustain the propagation and distribution of the priority seeding varieties.
Camiguin governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, meanwhile, expressed his optimism of the project’s potential in spurring the local economy. (JCV/PIA)
