MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, March 18 (PIA) – A school-based teen center was recently opened here to extend counseling services through trained peer helpers and teen center coordinators.
The center was based at the Mambajao National High School (MNHS), the first school-based teen center in the region opened by the Commission on Population (POPCOM) and the Provincial Population Office to serve as haven for young people in sharing good practices on responsible sexuality and healthy lifestyle.
Peer educators may also do community outreach to out-of-school youth, including students from other schools to advocate issues related to teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STI), and human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS).
The center also provides tutorial services to students by tapping good-performing students to help.
Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to POPCOM regional director Lydio Español for extending such assistance to the province. (JCV/PIA)
