MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, June 22 (PIA) — A historic single day sporting event will launch Mambajao’s 160th foundation Anniversary on July 5, 2015, highlighted with a fun run, super sprint triathlon, swimming and biking competition.
Open to Camiguinons only, the event seeks to develop young athletes, promote tourism, and healthy lifestyle habits among its constituents.
Elementary and high school students will be competing in the events in three different categories, to include players aging 17 years old and above.
The fun run has a 3-kilometer and 5-kilometer category, while the biking competition will trek a 15-kilometer distance, and a 350-meter race for swimming.
Super sprint triathlon will also start with a 300-meter distance swim, 10-kilometer bike, and 3-kilometer run around the town.
Gilbert Grado, municipal sports coordinator, said this is the first time that they pooled all sports event in one day, and they will sustain this in the coming years.
“It’s about providing more options and interesting challenges to encourage youth’s interests and participation in sports,” he noted.
Back to back to the fun run is the launching also of the athletic competition dubbed “PPR Run” named after the late representative Pedro P. Romualdo which will extend until July 7-10, 2015 for the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500 meter-race for elementary students, and until 3000 meter-race for high school, to be held at the Camiguin Tourism Sports Complex.
This is part of the local government’s healthy lifestyle campaign, anchored on its “Clean and Beautiful Mambajao-Our Way of Life” slogan.
Meanwhile, Mayor Maria Luisa Romualdo’s state of the municipal address (SOMA) will be the focus on the day of the foundation anniversary, July 6, along with other activities prepped up like the torch parade, mural contest, and launching of the e-negosyo center. (JCV/PIA)
