DTI turns over shared service facility to Guinsiliban

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, January 27 (PIA) — The Municipal Government Unit (MLGU) of Guinsiliban, Camiguin received a Coco-sugar Processing Shared Service Facility (SSF) from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin Provincial Office.

The MLGU’s direct beneficiary is the Guinsiliban Coconut Sugar Producer Association, led by the incumbent chair Marcelito Navarro.

The turn over includes a double kettle/burner with rotating coconut sugar maker to increase production volume and improve productivity; digital and mechanical weighing scales to standardize weights of finished products; hand pressed sealers to increase shelf life; food grade stainless working table compliant to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and a moisture meter to standardize the its moisture content.

According to DTI, from farming and fishing, the coconut sugar processing will become a value adding activity to coconut farmers, assures brighter prospect of improving the local economy by increasing domestic sales, investments and job generation.

Coconut sugar is known to be highly nutritious and a high value organic product with increasing demand especially from health conscious consumers both in the local and international market, as such, the product is now positioned among the town’s pasalubong items in support to the development of the tourism industry of Guinsiliban and the whole province of Camiguin as well.
