MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, March 31 (PIA) – Sawali makers in Guinsiliban town will soon gain appropriate tools to enhance their volume of production with the release of P.5million fund from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin Provincial Office under the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) project, this year.
DTI-Camiguin Provincial Director Joselito S. Enot handed the check to the municipal treasurer, Tripina A. Soriano, witnessed by Engr. Luisito G. Napisa, municipal planning and development coordinator (MPDC) of Guinsiliban and BUB point person, and Eric L. Aranas of DTI-Camiguin.
The sawali or woven split bamboo mats is one of the main products of Guinsiliban town, sawali makers are still using the traditional method for the preparation of raw materials as well as for the other bamboo products.
DTI said that with the assistance, there is a big chance for the locals to boosts their productivity, enhance their skills and create more opportunities to develop other forms of bamboo crafts in addition to sawali. (Zita M. Abellare with reports from Eric Aranas, DTI-Camiguin, JCV/PIA10)
