MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, April 28 (PIA) – A new composting facility for biodegradable Waste (CFBW) will soon rise in Mambajao following the recent signing of the memorandum of agreement between the local government unit (LGU) and the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).
This move is in unison to the province’s direction to go organic.
The MOA entails the establishment of the CFBW through the BSWM which shall facilitate the procurement and the delivery of the LGU, provide technical support and assistance, as well as monitor and document the status of the project as to the production data and overall sustainable in coordination with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) in Northern Mindanao.
The LGU for its part is expected to operate and establish the facility in accordance to with the technical protocol and to provide the manpower.
The project is in support to the “Organic Agriculture Act” and advocates the utilization of organic fertilizers as one of the methods in minimizing groundwater pollution, restoring soil fertility, reducing vulnerability of marginal famers on the high cost of chemical fertilizers, and promoting the gradual adoption of organic agriculture.
