cGMP training conducted to help boost the processed food sector in Camiguin

MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, May 20 (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin Provincial Office conducted a current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) training recently at the Mambajao Negosyo Center

Attending the training were officers and members of the Camiguin Food Products Association with the industry leader Vjandep Bakeshop and Processed Food Industry Expert Phoebe L. Galeon from the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) as the resource Person.

cGMP are practices required in order to conform to the guidelines recommended by agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  that controls authorization and licensing for the manufacture and sale of food.

It covers all aspects of production; from the starting materials, premises and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff.

The training presented concepts of the cGMP and was highlighted with site visits to some selected processors for a free firm level assessment.

The learning sessions are aimed at ensuring that processed food products here are of high quality, able to meet international standards and do not pose any risk to the consumer or public, especially that the processed food sector is a strong support to the tourism industry of the province as a pasalubong item.(Zita M.
