MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, May 26 (PIA) -A group of natural fiber producers in the province of Camiguin have undergone a Local Study Mission (LSM) in Sarangani Province in Region 12, this month.
The participants include Reuby Bullecer of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Camiguin, Florentino Duran of NAGPAKABANA Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) in Catarman, , Freddie Dado of Cuña MPC in Sagay, Rogelio Michaler of Baylao Small Coconut Farmers MPC, Bryan Kent Rafols of DTI-Camiguin and Gerardo Cabantac of San Miguel MPC in Mahinog
The LSM is aimed at benchmarking, doing market intelligence and acquiring technologies of handicrafts made from natural fibers like abaca and coconut fibers.
Successful natural fiber producers and weavers visited during the tour were the United Maligang Farmers MPC, ManangKampa of the T’boli Tribe and the Cooperative of Women in Health and Development (COWHED).
The natural fibers products are one of DTI’s focus of development initiatives for the handicraft sector of Camiguin as a strong support to the province’s tourism industry.
The LSM was made possible through the DTI-Camiguin in partnership with the DAR provincial office, funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). (Zita M. Abellare, DTI-Camiguin, PIA-Cam Inet)
