Camiguin holds 4th ultra marathon


MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, April 10 (PIA) – To boost the sports tourism in the province, the local government here in partnership with Promote Camiguin Inc., held the 4th Camiguin 360 Ultra Marathon on April 9 at Mambajao Municipal Hall Ground.


Gilbert Grado, event head, said that about 105 runners from various areas including Zamboanga, Bukidnon, Davao del Sur, Jolo and more participated in the 64KM UltraRun solo category and 10 runners joined in the relay event.


Bayani Alvarez from Cebu emerged as the overall champion for the male category and has finished the race at 5:20:50 hours. Tailing him is Desiderio Ingbino from Cebu who completed the marathon at 5:21:07 hours and Ramil Escolano from Camiguin bagged the second place who finished the race at 6:12:01 hours.


For the female category, Jennifer Red Sabela from Cagayan de Oro City (CDOC) was named as the overall champion who finished the race at 6:46:23 hours. Two other females from the said city bagged the first and second place namely Janice Shugar Somcio who finished at 7:05:28 hours and Gilda Velarde who completed the race at 7:19:12 hours.


17800262_1332827366796737_4322970629916323567_nMeanwhile, the mixed relay championship was earned by Mai Chung and Randie Briones from Cagayan de Oro City who completed the event at 5:49:44 hours. Irish Laurenciana and John Rey Tumanda (CDOC) who finished the relay event at 6:08:16 got the first place while Kenn Baja and Johanns Cordita (CDOC) garnered the second place after completing the race in 7:15:37 hours.


To ensure safety during the event, racers were required to bring flash light or head lamp, blinkers and hydration pack. The race started at 12:01 AM and winners were awarded at 11:30AM.


From Mambajao Ground, racers took a counterclockwise route to Nasaag Covered Court, Panghiawan Elementary School, Holy Rosary High School, Guinsiliban Elementary School, Kilometro 21, San Roque, Tupsan Pequino and Creekside, Anito.(RTP/PIA10)17155687_1301332606612880_5050523119087043741_n
