CAMIGUIN, November 13 (PIA) – To organize and capacitate more men from all over the province, who do not only detest violence against women (VAW) but are also willing to proactively campaign and work towards its eradication, the Camiguin Police Provincial Office (CPPO) conducted a seminar to their men personnel on Men Oppose to VAW Everywhere (MOVE) on November 4 at Camp Bonifacio Aranas, Baylao, Mambajao.
Guinsiliban Municipal Police Station OIC PInsp Webb Itum Bajenio said that they are conducting the MOVE campaign twice a year to the police personnel in the province since VAW appears as one of the country’s pervasive social problems.
Around 25 policemen participated in the orientation, which discussed the formulation of total male involvement and actions in the elimination of VAW, formation of partnerships and linkages with similar groups working on VAW, and establishment of resource network on VAW.
In 2006, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) helped organize the MOVE– an organization of men who committed themselves to be actively involved in the elimination of VAW. MOVE members are men from various organizations, including the government, private sector, academe and non-government organizations.(RTP/PIA10)
