CAMIGUIN, Oct. 22 (PIA)–With over a thousand spectators, the 39th Camiguin Lanzones Festival opens with the annual festival marathon, farm ribbon cutting, art competition, umbrella street street dance, agro-industrial-tourism trade fair, and music and dance contests on October 21 at Cong. PPR Tourism and Sports Complex.
At exactly 5:00 AM about 354 runners graced the 39th Lanzones Festival Marathon. There were 100 runners for the 42km run, 121 for 21km and 133 for 5km, said Gilbert Grado, event head.
On the other hand, Senator Cynthia Villar, Gov. Maria Luisa Romualdo, Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo and Mamabajao Mayor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo, highlighted the festival opening through the Lanzones Festival Farm Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at Puntod, Mahinog, here.
Art enthusiasts also had a chance to showcase their talents in Mugna Art Competition as the Treasures of Camiguin spearheaded the Camiguin Art Gallery Opening at Bug-ong, Mambajao.
Colorful umbrellas were also a sight to behold during the festivity in the Agsadja Ki Raw Festival Grand Parade. It is a choreographed umbrella street dance with the Mutya sa Buahanan candidates. Various schools, national line agencies, private companies and local government units (LGUs) joined the parade.
In the formal opening of the festival, Rep. Zajid Mangundadatu, who served as the guest speaker of the event, said the government now focuses on fighting corruption, illegal drugs and criminality that affect the country’s economy. His visits to various areas in the country is aimed to seek for peace and order considering all beliefs, culture and ideology.
Furthermore, the Provincial Government of Camiguin through Gov. Maria Luisa Romualdo, Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo and municipal mayors, together with Rep. Mangudadatu, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan and guests led the 39th Camiguin Lanzones Festival “Pabuenas” aimed to imbibe good bounties and successful festivity this year.
They also led the Agro-Industrial-Tourism Trade Fair Ribbong Cutting Ceremony and Viewing at Ugmad Site where locals display the bounties of the island. The event aims to help entrepreneurs promote their products to the locals and tourists.
In the Agsadja Ki Raw Music Showdown, Fatima College of Camiguin bagged the third place, Mahinog National High School second place and Mambajao National High School was named as this year’s champion.
To cap the night off, Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar, who served as the guest speaker of the Agsadja Ki Raw Inter-Agency and Barangay Icon Concert Competition, said Camiguin is blessed with a rare kind of lanzones thus, he encouraged Camiguingnons to treasure such bounty and help in boosting its produce.
He also lauded the kind of governance in the province, maintaining peace and order and marking great accomplishments throughout the years, and the contributions of Rep. Romualdo in the Congress which improved not just the lives of Camiguingnons but the whole nation as well.
More series of activities will be held in the island until October 30 thus, Gov. Romualdo invites everyone to witness the grand festivity of the island. (RTP/PIA10)
