CAMIGUIN, Jan. 5 (PIA)—Featuring over 20 handicraft makers, and talents in sports, singing, dancing and more, the 51st Camiguin Founding Anniversary dubbed, “Adlaw Ta Camiguin,” officially opened on January 5 at the Ugmad Site, Mambajao, here.

Just like in every household, if there is trouble, it will start to crack then it will crumble, go down and eventually all of the family members’ dreams will fail, Romualdo stressed.

Handicraft Festival

By aiding the local entrepreneurs particularly the handicraft makers through holding the First Handicraft Festival, the local government along with DTI believes that such will boost not only the usage of locally-grown materials but also the talents of handicraft makers in the island and their capability to augment family’s income.

Estrella’s paperweights and ballpen holders made of Bitaog is just among the many products highlighted in the handicraft festival.

Tourists and locals could also purchase and view the makings of fashion bags made of Nito, doormats made of coco coir by the women’s group in Agoho, Mambajao, lampshades, coin banks and wine holders made of ‘Batakan’ bamboos, accessories from broken glasses, bamboo wind chimes, baskets, slippers, and more.

Thus, the local government in partnership with Deped spearheaded the Spelling Quiz Bee and Local History Quiz Bowl, “Tigi sa Kaalam sa Kasaysayan,” for elementary and secondary levels.

Sports enthusiasts were also able to show their skills in the Inter-Municipality High School Basketball Tournament and the Fun Run/Barkada Run at Cong. PPR Tourism and Sports Complex.

Local families and tourists also gathered during the night to witness the Kaplag sa Bituon (Cebuano solo singing contest for elementary pupils), Tinig at Himig ng Mag-irog (Tagalog duet contest for secondary level), and Ingsugilon Paagi Ta Sajaw (cultural dance drama contest).

By involving Camiguingnons of all ages in these activities, the mayor said such will help in uniting the province.

“The speed of success is always dependent on our dedication and willingness to sacrifice. We have to complement with each other and let’s not make excuses so we won’t crumble and fail,” Romualdo said. (RTP/PIA10)
