DILG Camiguin conducts SK federation orientation, election

CAMIGUIN, July 10 (PIA)–In accordance with the implementation of Republic Act 10742(Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015) specifically on the organization and election of officers of SK federations, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Camiguin conducted a two-day Panlalawigan SK Orientation and Elections at the DILG Camiguin Provincial Office.

Camiguin SK Federation election_5b43fc6c7f08a4_08853245Among the topics discussed during the orientation were: Servant Leadership by the Head Chaplain Value Restoration Advocate for Camiguin Chapter Nador J. Nacua where he emphasized some of the characteristics and activities of servant-leaders that will enable them to work tirelessly and eventually develop genuine leadership skills.

“The servant-leader is a servant first where it creates the natural feeling that one wants to serve first. Then mindful choice brings one to aspire to lead,” Nacua said.

Meanwhile, OIC Principal Alberto Ladao of Mambajao National High School discussed the Organizing Knowledge Enhancement of Youth Skills to further help the newly-elected officials to handle their responsibilities.

To capacitate the SK officials on their new roles as leaders, DILG Provincial Director, Rhona G. Pedraza-Abadilla discussed the Legal Bases of SK Pederasyon; Powers and Functions of SK Pederasyon Officials; Trends, Issues and Challenges in Governance Affecting the Youth: Anti-Illegal Drugs, Federalism, Anti-Terrorism, Anti-Corruption and Reproductive Health.

The newly-elected SK Federation of Camiguin include Lucile D. Salvani- president, Patrick Joel S. Panaligan- vice president, Rhea V. Uba- secretary, Dheno D. Estrada- treasurer and Ivan G. Janopol- auditor.

Five SK federation presidents from Mambajao, Catarman, Mahinog, Guinsiliban and Sagay participated in the said activity.(DILG Camiguin/PIA10)

DILG Camiguin gears up for SK Mandatory Training

CAMIGUIN, April 18 — In preparation for the conduct of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Mandatory Training, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Camiguin Provincial Office conducted an Organizational Meeting for the members of the Provincial Implementation Teams on April 10 at DILG Camiguin Provincial Office.

This is in line with improving the competencies of newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan Officials in assuming their roles as prime movers in youth development.

The DILG in coordination with National Youth Commission (NYC) Government is set to conduct a nationwide one-day SK Mandatory Training Program for the newly elected SK Officials. The implementation of the training will tap third party service providers or the local resource institutes like state universities and colleges as partners.

For the province of Camiguin, DILG Provincial Director Rhona G. Pedraza-Abadilla spearheaded the meeting which was participated by the Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MLGOOs) and Local Youth Development Officers (LYDOs) of Catarman, Mahinog, Mambajao and Guinsiliban, and Camiguin Polytechnic State College Representative, Instructor I Victor Niño C. Dapar.

Abadilla discussed the guidelines regarding the implementation of the SK mandatory and continuing training programs to be jointly implemented by the DILG and NYC.

She also emphasized the roles and responsibilities of the Provincial Management Team, training modules, calendar of activities, breakdown of expenses, budgetary requirements, roles and responsibilities of the Provincial Management Team, and training delivery.

Abadilla said that non-attendance to the SK Mandatory Training without any valid reason would be considered as a necessary ground to disqualify SK officials or subject them to disciplinary actions.

“We are hoping that this training will make our youth leaders more equipped with knowledge and skills to fulfil their mandated functions,” she said.

The conduct of the SK mandatory training is in line with the implementation of the SK Reform Act or Republic Act No. 10742. The SK Mandatory Training Program for Camiguin will be conducted on May 23, 2018 (Catarman, Sagay, Guinsiliban) and May 24, 2018 (Mahinog and Mambajao).

Modules on Decentralization and Local Governance, SK History and Salient Features, Conduct of Meetings and Craft Resolutions, Planning and Budgeting, and Code of conduct and Ethical Standards of a Public Official would be taken up in the said activity.(DILG-10/RTP/PIA10)
