MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, August 30 (PIA)— To lay down the foundation for inclusive growth, a high-trust society and a globally competitive knowledge economy in the province, the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)-10 presented the AmBisyon Natin 2040 during the ASEAN Multi-Sectoral Forum on August 25 at the Provincial Convention Center.
Peleta Abejo, senior economic development specialist of NEDA-10, shared that such long-term vision for the country highlights “Malasakit” or enhancing the social fabric, “Pagbabago” or the inequality-reducing transformation and “Patuloy na Pag-Unlad” or the increasing growth potential.
In the province, Abejo said that the average gross domestic product is 6.3 percent and out of three, there is only one poor Camiguingnon with less than P1,000 monthly income.
To become non-poor, each household in Camiguin should at least earn P21,678 per annum.
NEDA-10 also reported that there was a 22-23 percent decrease in poverty incidence and 24.9 percent to less than 20 percent reduce in unemployment.
As to encouraging the Camiguingnons on fostering a better life, Abejo cited the 17 sustainable development goals which include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure.
She also added sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.
With AmBisyon Natin 2040, NEDA envisions the country that “By 2040, the Philippines shall be a prosperous predominantly middle-class society where no one is poor. Our peoples will enjoy long and healthy lives, are smart and innovative, and will live in a high-trust society.”(RTP/PIA10)
