CAMIGUIN, September 25 (PIA)—Geared towards educating the youth on healthy lifestyle, handling relationships, responsible sexual behavior and human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), the Provincial Government of Camiguin through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) held the third Camiguin Youth Summit with 1,030 in and out-of-school youth (OSY) participants on September 21 at the Provincial Convention Center, Mambajao, here.
Provincial Governor Maria Luisa Romualdo said holding such event is significant in addressing the current emerging issues in the province particularly on the rising teenage fertility and proliferation of HIV and AIDS.
“We now have difficulties in ensuring the continued education of our teenagers since most private schools here advise teenage mothers to transfer to other schools since they do not want such act to be followed by other students,” Romualdo said.
Thus, in the summit, the trained You-for-You (U4U) youth speakers of the Commission on Population (Popcom) thoroughly discussed Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health (ASRH), and love and romantic relationships.
In the said session, the participants were reminded that adolescents and youth should not rush to be very intimate with someone he/she is romantically linked with. They should also practice responsible sexuality to avoid consequences that they may regret.
In an attempt to hold lively discussions, the topics were highlighted in stalls around the venue where the participants come in groups to get insights as well as raise their concerns to the key speakers.
The youth participants were also able to showcase their talents during the evening through the talent competition held by the provincial government. (RTP/PIA10)
