Camiguin continues to be rabies-free

CAMIGUIN, October 18 (PIA)—Maintaining its rabies-free status for more than six years, the Province of Camiguin has earned distinct recognition during the 2018 National Rabies Summit on September 27 at Metro Manila, Philippines.
Rabies-free Camiguin.jpgCamiguin has been named as one of the provinces maintaining its rabies-free status for the past five years and one of the few provinces with Zero Human Rabies for more than six years.
During the World Rabies Day 2018, the province has also bagged the national award as the Best Rabies Program Implementor on September 28 at Quezon City.
In the Joint Meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) on October 9, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Louis Bollozos said they have spayed/neutered 849 heads already as of October 8, 2018.
They have also accomplished 83.7 percent or 7,112 vaccinated pet animals out of the 8,500 total population for this year.
He also added though there are 524 human dog and cat biting incident/cases for this year (426 for dog bites, 89 cat bites and 9 others), no severe case was reported since the pet/house dogs and cats were vaccinated.
To maintain such feat, Bollozos said they continuously conduct the Dog Show, Responsible Pet Ownership Seminar, Mass Rabies Vaccination, IEC-Rabies Video Showing, Spay and Neuter in the five municipalities of the province. (RTP/PIA10)
