MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, May 8 (PIA)—To strengthen the sports tourism in the province, Promote Camiguin in partnership with the municipality of Mambajao and provincial government of Camiguin held the third Mt. Hibok-Hibok Triathlon on May 6-7.
About 75 sports enthusiasts participated in the swimming, biking and running event for this year. The race started with the 1.5km swimming race at White Island, Yumbing, Mambajao followed by the 64km biking event around the island and 10km run at Yumbing, Baylao.
Gilbert Grado, sports coordinator of Mambajao local government, said that the triathlon also aims to foster healthy lifestyle among the island’s constituents and youth development.
This year, Brian Borling of the Omega Tri Team bagged the overall championship for the men’s category as he finished the race at 2:59:05 hours. Tailing him are Jonathan Pagaura of TriBohol and Mark Balanay who respectively completed the race at 3:07:39 and 3:08:21 hours.
For the women’s category, Leyann Ramo of Iligan Archangels emerged as the overall champion as she finished at 3:13:58 hours. Sittie Amina Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte Tri earned the first place after completing the race at 3:33:45 hours while Jenefer Paloma of Tri Mamba and Danica Rose Peligrino of GTRI/GUMS took the second and third places as they finished at 3:43:57 and 4:33:54 hours respectively.
Various events were also held for specific age ranges starting from 24 and below to 50 and above.
Bartolata and Jeffrey Real of TriBohol bagged the first place in the relay event finishing at 3:15:49. They are followed by Alex Dvorkin and Lain de Joux also from Tribohol (3:17:24), and Roldan Chan and Romeo Rago of the LGU Mambajao (3:39:38).(RTP/PIA10)
