‘Bring your own bayong’ takes effect in Mambajao

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, June 16 (PIA) – With the aim to preserve the environment and aid in the information dissemination on the importance of taking care of the natural resources, the municipal government of Mambajao implements the “Bring Your Own Bayong” (bag) in all commercial establishments since June 1, 2017.

This is in line with the Municipal Ordinance No. 09-12-2015 or the ordinance regulating all commercial establishments from using plastic/cellophane materials utilized as bags or containers for all commercial goods including perishable commodities and prescribing penalties for violation thereof.  camiguin2

A dry run was conducted everyWednesday on December 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017 which was seen to have a good impact towards inculcating the habit of the people in bringing their own grocery bags.

Failure to observe such ordinance will entail penalties based on the frequency of violation. For first offense, violators will have to pay P500, second offense at P1,000 and third offense will be paid at P2,500 and/or imprisonment of more than six months upon the discretion of the court and in the case of business establishments, cancellation of their license to operate for the period of one year.(RTP/PIA10)
