Camiguin celebrates 46th founding anniversary

MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, January 6 (PIA) – The festivity here continues as Camiguinons welcome its 46th founding anniversary with week-long fun filled activities.

The Governor’s Cup Shooting Tournament kick-off the celebration on January 3, along with other sports cup tournaments.

The provincial tourism center, where the festivity is held, was instantly transformed like a mini town celebrating the “Pista sa Nayon” (fiesta), where traditional games, cultural shows, and performances are prepared to entertain local folks and tourists, alike.

The exhibit of the “Lantaw Dagat” entries, the first underwater photography tilt, is among the highlights of this year’s celebration, while various events like fire drills, tree planting, scubarero (underwater clean-up), and fun dive were also initiated.

The governor’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) will be delivered on Tuesday, January 7, after the civic parade. Awards of the 2012 Seal of Housekeeping-Performance Challenged Fund, Christmas Festival, Bulawanong Barangay and the best “Food is Always in the Home” (FAITH) implementer will also be handed on the same day.

And to cap the celebration, hottest teens in the province will vie for the Mr. and Ms. Teen Camiguin competition.  (JCV/PIA)
